LET DANCE BE YOUR GUIDE THROUGH SITES OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

An interdisciplinary project in the form of an augmented reality application for smartphones, Dance Walk combines Greek cultural heritage with contemporary dance and high-tech.

It proposes a stroll at the centre of Athens, with stops at selected archaeological sites, where the users can attend through their device, a short dance performance, inspired by the environment, the architecture, and the history of the place (site-specific dance).

At each archaeological site the visitors locate a specific spot through the their smartphone’s camera. This activates the digital model of each dancer who comes to life within the screen’s frame, surrounded by the elements of the scenery.

Past and present meet on the device’s screen, while new technologies and dance provide the opportunity for new ways of experiencing a place, within an overlay of physical and digital space.
